McClernand, visits the Union camp at Sharpsburg, Md., on Oct. 3, 1862, a few weeks after the Battle of Antietam. Lincoln was there to persuade Gen. George McClellan to take his army on the attack against Gen. Robert E. Lee. Pinkerton was Lincoln's bodyguard.
